Cory is the Male State Committeeman and District Leader of Brooklyn’s 58th New York State Assembly District--serving Brooklyn neighborhoods of East Flatbush, Brownsville, and Canarsie.
Cory is a first generation Brooklynite with Caribbean ancestry from the East Flatbush neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY. Cory’s family has played an integral part in his life, teaching him the importance of education, access, and advocacy and building awareness through civic engagement–especially in the minds of our youth.
From 2009-2011, Cory would serve as the youngest member of the Board of Trustees for the City University of New York (www.cuny.edu). As a trustee Cory was responsible for helping to shape the direction of public higher education within New York City. During this time Cory also served as a Trustee to the Higher Education Services Corporation, the government agency responsible for managing the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)–the country’s largest state grant program for college students.
Also, from 2009-2011 Cory would be a founding member--and serve as the Vice President for Young Movement a New York based not-for-profit think tank that provides research and advocacy on socioeconomic issues affecting young people ages 18–35, and forms meaningful partnerships for its members.
In 2012, Cory would successfully run and become the Male State Committeeman and District Leader of Brooklyn’s 58th New York State Assembly District, and would run unopposed in 2014. Since 2012 Cory has fought, with great success, for reforms within the Democratic party of Kings County pushing primarily for more transparency and engagement from the party to the greater Brooklyn community.
Cory holds a B.A. in Philosophy and a M.A. in Urban Policy and Administration from Brooklyn College.
